Three Videos, Three Sentences, Three Times the Charm

So on the first video, Snack and Drink, it was interesting because of all the changes that it made. My particular favorite part about it though was when the drink fountains came alive in a since that they had arms and eyes and started to move. It was certainly one that I could tell it had a hand rotoscoped look. The cool thing about the second one, Walking Life, was that features of the people changed like their nose or eye color; things that were small and that could go unnoticed if the viewer is not paying full attention to the clip. It was great watching the rotoscope show the movement in things like the hair and clothing. In the third clip of the trailer, A Snanner Darkly, the co-existing of the rotoscope and the real reality look of it is amazing and is something that makes the movie look so great. It very awesome that a whole movie was made in this amimation technique. My favorite video clip was the Snack and Drink. Animation and rotoscoping has certainly come a long way with the new inivations in technology and new program and they help make it possible.

Frank Pichel and the MGM Mirage clip

I can put in one word what I feel this video is communication . . .Life. It starts out with water that switches to champagne and then a girl swimming in what is to be thought, champagne which is showing a figure of speech, "my cup overflow," this saying is usually used in expressions of life, joy, happiness, fulfillment, etc. I show a beautiful picture of Vegas because life is happening there and taking risks, which is a part of life. It shows a man enjoy a peaceful day of golf on a beautiful course and showing a relaxing day which life should be. The view of the Grand Canyon is a way to sit back a enjoy nature and what God created in beautiful scenery for us to take in life and its wonderment. Life is happening and it wants people to come to the MGM Mirage to enjoy it and let loose!

Example of an Alternate World

So I have put some great thought into this . . . what could be an example of an alternate reality/universe/ or world.  The best thing that I could think of is very recent but also an idea that has just been remade.  The 2009 Movie Land of The Lost it is a world created of several worlds throughout the many centuries of the world and its past present, and future.  It is a mixtures of many time periods and even another universe/galaxy of aliens combined with earthly things.  I feel that this movie is a great example that most people have and can relate to just because it is a well known and heard of movie.  The director and crew did a great job in combining so many realities and things together.

Existing Rotoscope In The World

So it is interesting that when I was looking for short clips done in rotoscoping and found so many videos but they each looked different. This made me learn that there is different looks to rotoscoping and not just only one kind. I was interested when I found that commercials have been done in this animation technique and even Walt Disney's Snow White. The commercial I found was for a Charles Schwab ad and saw that not just one of their commercials had been done like this but a couple of more as well. I was hoping to find something in rotoscope in the commercial world because obviously we know that it is used by artists because it has an artistic look to it, but you would not figure it being used or used often by commercial, industrial businesses or anything else that would be advertised. It was very shocking and fabulous to find out that Snow White was rotoscoped and even that long ago. I watched her as a kid and even now knowing this it doesn't seem at all that she was done in this animation technique, the work just seems flawless! Defining Alternate Reality

The internet defines an alternate reality  as a parallel universe or a multiverse.  An alternate reality could be a universe of where all the natural and /or physical laws are different and has no limitations.  It could be a universe where gravity is non-existent  on earth.  I believe an alternate reality could be all these things but an alternate reality is what you want it to be but something that is not part of daily reality, or daily reality in a new and different way.  It could even be you as an evil "twin" or a personality that you wish you were.  An alternate reality has so many possibilities and leaves room for creativity  and to make of it as in any way you wish and do so please. 

Alternate Reality project

So I have thought about this all weekend and brainstorming about an alternate reality and the best I've come up with is everything that is normally right side up so instead doing everything up side down; ex: where the floor is on ceiling and the ceiling is on the floor. Perhaps doing an alternate ego or a different you, a you that maybe you would rather be or a you that no one sees and knows about but you; like a proper girl that is secretly mischievous or visa verse. I could absolutely see a person that has suppressed their total personality and it finally coming out seem as a alternate reality. The only problem that I've had with these ideas is that I don't really like them much or either that they are just not fully developed and have no idea how I could make them better and to accomplish them. Seems as though I still have some thinking to do and some bumps to overcome.

Thoughts on Tim Hawkinson's work

I read Tim Hawkinson's biography before I watch a couple of his clips of his work. I feel by doing so helped to prepare me for his work and his style. My first thoughts when reading his biography was that I was expecting his work to seem freaky, certainly out of the ordinary, but knew that it was him and his own style and no one else. At first when I read that he made a bird out of his own fingernail clippings, I was like gross, but at the same time that it would draw an audience in just for at least curiousity if nothing else and that people would be intrigued.

When I saw the clips of his work it actually was interesting and different. When I saw the clip of "Emotor" I was more draw in by the process of his work and his thoughts of using himself as his subject matter. He made great points of why he uses himself as a subject matter instead of other people . . . he said "I have the rights to my own body," this allows him to do whatever he do so chooses. Using himself he certainly would not have to worry about any law suits or disrespecting anyone else because of his artwork and what he may have or have not done to it. As for the clip "Drip," I found it to really cool! I looked like it was somewhat difficult to make and seemed very technical. I'm sure audiences could tell that hard work and thought had to go into making such a complex piece of art. It really did sound like music, as if a person were beating on some drums almost. He has some interesting work that seems to aim also toward being audience friendly, as if he has them in mind in making his works.

Surprisingly, it can be hard finding a cartoon when searching for a transformation animation on youtube that is not an animay cartoon or sailor moon cartoon. My guess would be that those cartoons use transformation often. As for my clip that I found on youtube is a little funny . . . it tries to show you how to go from being a looser to hero, haha!!

Transformation Animation

So I have been thinking of a couple of ideas for this transformation animation project and I seem to have several ideas. I thought of doing one of using pictures of me as a baby transforming into a young woman. I have also thought about doing one that is a little funnier using celebrities, but have not worked out that idea fully yet and I'm not quite sure where I would want to go with that. Obviously, there is still a few kinks to be worked out! I really liked seeing the demo for the Flash Player animation, using "tween" animation, so I'm thinking of using something that could go along with that. I even liked the idea of doing something simple, streamline, and abstract using just shapes or words. So many possibilities that it is making it hard to decide and commit to one idea! I suppose I still have a lot more thinking to do!

Transformation

Dictionary.com defines transformation in many ways . . . but my favorite to fit this animation project is "change in form, appearance, nature, or character." Transformation can be defined in many more ways and you wouldn't need a dictionary to define it. Some one could have a mental transformation, a physical transformation, a personality transformation, or it could be even a transformation of shapes and where it doesn't even deal with a person and could be just an object. There are so many possibilities that it makes it hard to decide on just one for this project.

History of Animation

So one thing I found interesting is that so many people were involved in animation at such an early time, but yet they did not get the credit they deserved until many years later. It is ashamed that these men were ok with that and taking the secret to their graves. See with my generation we are thinking this whole time that Walt Disney was the father of animation, but it seems to have been founded about 20 years earlier, interesting! I remember watching so many Disney movies growing up as a kid; The Little Mermaid was my favorite. Animation has changed so much even since then. Personally, in my opinion, Disney movies just are not the same anymore in the sense that they just are not as good as they use to be; perhaps that is because Disney of the 90's and earlier is what I grew up on. One of the other thing that I found interesting is that Disney movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was made back in 1937; I had no idea that Disney had been around for so long! One thing I did like to hear was that Walt Disney himself did not just take total credit for his success, he said that his artist help him succeed too and gave them credit as whole. Unfortunately, not as individuals. Another interesting thing is how far animation has come as an artform and how far it has come for not only Disney but for Warner Brothers and MGM as well. I grew up watch things like Looney Tunes as well and I can see a change even in those characters and how far they have come . . . Bugs Bunny is looking a lot better these days! It seems that with time technology really has done animation some good! Technology really has helped speed up the pace of thing like productivity more and made it more streamline and crisp. If Windsor McCay would have made "Gertie the Dinosaur" in this day in time it would not have taken him a year to just draw it, that is how well technology has helped the world of animation. Mildstones been crossed by leaps and bounds for animation but I feel that there is still a lot more in store for animation and the future. Things could always be better for animation and many other things as well. There is always room for improvement!

Brief discription of this clip a woman, the main character of the animation, she sees a commercial and wants what she saw and so she heads on a journey to the grocery store to get it. It end up being a cute and funny little animation. In this clip I liked the clean animation, it was seamless! You can tell that most likely that this was a drawing animation so the drawing in it is impressive, even the details that is part of the background. It reminds me a lot of a silent film but of this genereation. . .modern.

My Final Ideas of a Journey

So I think I may have finally come up with an idea; but to be honest I'm not sure how much I like it or if it will even work. As I have mentioned before I want to show some type of journey that is happening through my eyes; so I have decided to show my walk to class in the early morning. Think it sounds to ordinary well I am thinking of adding a twist or two in there when it comes to the editing. To make it a little more unrealistic, even though it is very realistic, I am thinking of giving it a posterization effect. Seeing how I have to be up so early . . . I thought I might would add in a couple of cool effects to make it seem like my eyes were still heavy and sleepy like they are wanting to close to go to sleep, while I am still walking to class, like I wasn't quite awake yet. I hope the more ideas i get to add to it that I will be enthused, because honestly it needs a little tweeking.

A Journey

There is many different ways to view a journey. When I think of a journey the first thing that pops up into my mind is some kind of traveling, even if it is from your room to the kitchen to make a sandwich. So I'm not exactly sure what my project is going to be, but I do know I want to show me doing some type of travel even if it if on my way to class. This is they type of journey I want to show . . . travel. I did, however, consider the types of journey to possibly create, but I felt that this was the best way to incorporate me and showing me in my daily life or a vacation and getting a peek into it. Sometimes, we forget how much the daily strides are important to us as a person and how it affects our future as well. An exciting thing about a journey is that anything can happen at any given moment, at the same time something bad could also happen. It makes a person's wheels start turning in their head when they think of the decisions that a person could make, and how it effects them. It also gets your mind thinking about ideas and possibilities.
